NME: Annie Lennox to be honoured with lifetime achievement award

Annie Lennox to be honoured with lifetime achievement award
from Music News, October 7, 2011

Annie Lennox is to be presented with a lifetime achievement prize at the Inspiration Awards For Women in London. The ceremony, hosted by former tennis star Andrew Castle and news presenter Sarah-Jane Mee, is held to raise money for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity. It takes place tonight (October 7) at Cadogen Hall in Chelsea.

The singer is being recognised for her long music career as well as her extensive campaigning work. In 2010 she was awarded the OBE for her work raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic and poverty in Africa. She is also an ambassador for UNAids and Oxfam.

The singer was given the Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Award in July for her “global influence”, but that event was overshadowed when the venue, the Hilton Hotel in Mayfair, went up in flames, forcing those attending – including Lennox, Liza MinelliBlack Eyed Peas rapper and Status Quo – to evacuate the building.

Lennox also said in April “I doubt I’ll ever tour again” because being on the road left her exhausted “physically and mentally”.
