by Carlo Lorenzo J. Datu, August 08, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga August 8 (PIA) — Department of Labor and Employment 3 (DOLE 3) recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the National Business Coalition on AIDS (NBCA) in an effort to intensify its campaign against the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in the workplace and in communities where companies operate.

Present in the MOA signing were DOLE Regional Director Leopoldo De Jesus, DOLE Assistant Regional Director Geraldine Panlilio, Asia-Pacific Business Coalition on AIDS (APBCA) Chief Executive Officer Stephen Grant and NBCA Executive Director Aileen Que.

Labor Central Luzon information officer Jerry Borja explained that NBCA, which is the Philippine chapter of APBCA, will help DOLE in educating companies on the causes and how to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as how to handle employees with such health condition through lectures and distribution of information, education and communication materials.

Borja added that the Regional office 3 is NCBA’s pilot partner in DOLE.

In a statement, De Jesus said that their partnership with NCBA “can contribute in the Philippines’ attainment of United Nations Millennium Development Goal No.6 which is halt HIV/AIDs, malaria and other diseases come 2015.” (WLB/CLJD-PIA 3)
