APLA’s HIV MATTERS Community Update (August 10): A BRIDGE TO HEALTHCARE REFORM: Real Facts About the Affordable Care Act and You

APLA’s HIV MATTERS Community Update (August 10): A BRIDGE TO HEALTHCARE REFORM:  Real Facts About the Affordable Care Act and You
from AIDS Project Los Angeles, August 7, 2011

The passage of the Affordable Care Act in March 2010 marked the beginning of a dramatic transformation of our nation’s health system. Many of the reforms — including a significant expansion of Medicaid to most people up to 133% of the federal poverty level in 2014, huge investments in community health centers, and prevention and public health initiatives — have the potential to dramatically expand access to care for low-income people living with HIV and AIDS. There are also significant challenges presented by health care reform, and we as a community must work to ensure that HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and services are included in health care reform expansions.
