MANILA, Philippines – The number of Filipinos affected by Human Immunodeficiency Virus – Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS) has gone up in the past month.
Based on the data provided by the Department of Health (DOH) National Epidemiology Center, there are 178 recorded cases of AIDS just for the month of June.
Out of the 178 patients who tested positive of the disease, 167 of them are men and 11 are women.
This record is 63% higher compared to the recorded cases of AIDS patients in June of 2010.
According to the DOH, there are already 1,016 AIDS-infected patients in the country for the first 6 months of 2011.
Meanwhile, the Philippine AIDS Council said more than 64,000 Filipinos could possibly have AIDS by the year 2015. – Report from Johnson Manabat, DZMM
